Stand with Shae: Fund Gender-Affirming Care

My name is Shae and I am trying to raise funds for a mastectomy to support my transition. Given the current political discourse and the climate under the current administration, gender-affirming care is already a difficult path. Current trends allude to it becoming even more difficult, bordering on becoming completely impossible. With already limited options becoming fewer by the day, I want to reach out for support and do something even more difficult than pursuing the procedure: I’m asking for help.

A specialist in my area does not take insurance, and we’ve been quoted just under $11,300 for the entire process including consultation, the procedure, and requisite aftercare. In-house financing options are limited with excessive interest rates, and I unfortunately am unable to pursue external financing because this procedure is considered cosmetic despite its value as a life-saving medical procedure.

Given the current political climate regarding this type of care, limited financing options, and other complexities surrounding the position I, and many others, find myself in, I’m reaching out for help. Help to take this opportunity before it’s no longer an option as well as to show that trans existence cannot be rug-swept, ignored, and denied. I’m also asking for help to achieve a comfort in my own skin and the happiness and health that would bring.
