Stand with Scott and Sabrena in ALS Battle
Donation protected
My dear friends, Scott and Sabrena Swain, are going through a challenging time right now and could use prayer and financial support.
Sabrena was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gerig's Disease) in April 2022 after experiencing unexplained weakness in her legs. ALS is a nervous system disease that progressively weakens all your muscles and impacts physical function until it takes your life. Medication and therapies can slow ALS and reduce discomfort but at this time there is no cure. Today, June 2, is the 80th anniversary of the death of Lou Gehrig.
After diagnosis, Sabrena and Scott's world continued to be full of work and caring for others despite the challenge's they faced. Sabrena has been running a thriving marriage and family therapy practice and both have been running their new non-profit, CALEAP, which provides post critical incident seminars and peer support to current, former and retired first responders who have experienced trauma.
Scott and Sabrena have great attitudes, an amazing fighting spirit and thankfully a sense of humor which has helped them through the drastic life changes that come when someone is diagnosed with a terminal diagnosis.
Sabrena's weakness has progressed to paralysis in her legs and has been moving up into her torso. Their house has had to undergo renovations to accommodate their new normal which is a power chair, a chair lift to get her to and from her bedroom, a Hoyer lift to assist with getting to and from the bathroom and a total bathroom remodel to allow for the lift to access all the bathroom needs. They also had to purchase a wheelchair accessible van to allow Sabrena to travel in a car (to and from work, doctor's appointments, therapies, etc.). All this to say, they have utilized all of their resources and the charges keep coming in. Sabrena has a wonderful medical team at Kaiser but also requires a naturopathic doctor and alternative treatments not covered by insurance to give her the best chance at living as healthy and well for as long as possible given the 3-5 year life expectancy once diagnosed with ALS and the progressive nature of this disease.
At this time, Sabrena's heath has dictated that she slow down and has to go from a full time to part time practice which obviously is a financial strain for them. Sabrena hopes to continue working for as long as possible but given this diagnosis timing is unpredictable.
This is where we all come in. Would you please join me in praying for Scott and Sabrena? They have dedicated their lives to caring for others, often at the absolute worst time in someone's life. They step into the hard and make a difference, and I would love to see them supported in the same way. Would you consider donating toward Sabrena's care?
Thank you so much for reading and considering a gift to support Scott and Sabrena! The donations (minus go fund me fees) will go directly to Scott and Sabrena! Thank you in advance!
Gratefully,
