My nephew, Ryan, is facing a battle that no one should ever have to face. Diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a form of childhood cancer that tests the very limits of the body and spirit, his life has been turned upside down. City of Hope, a place renowned for its expertise in treating cancer, has become his second home. Day after day, he endures the relentless routine of lab draws, spinal taps, bone marrow biopsies, and chemotherapy. Each procedure is a reminder of the severity of his condition, but also a testament to his bravery. He faces each obstacle with the quiet courage of someone far older than his 19 years of age.

There are days when the weight of it all seems too much, and yet he pushes through. In between medical appointments, procedures, and treatment, he finds peace and joy in the small things: the laughter of family, the texts from his cousins and friends, the conversations between his siblings, and even the stories of his dog, Kelso’s, mishaps.

It's easy to be brave when there is nothing to fear, but to be brave when every ounce of your energy is consumed by a battle that you never asked to fight, that’s where true bravery lies.

Ryan has always been our “kind giant,” always caring for others. At the young age of 8 years old, he started a shoe drive, asking for shoe donations instead of birthday presents so he could donate to a local charity. Now, through all of his pain, his kindness shines through. He has a heart that refuses to harden. It is impossible to know what the future holds, but one thing is for certain: Ryan is a warrior. He is fighting for his life, and we will stand by his side.

While Ryan and his parents navigate this very difficult time, we can be their village. I am asking for your support to help them navigate the logistics of Ryan’s treatments. Funds will be used towards Ryan’s care, lodging near City of Hope during treatment, transportation, meals, and any other logistics that may arise, so that as a family, they can focus on Ryan’s care.
