Stand with PERC Coffee's Fired Staff
Donation protected
Last week, PERC Coffee in Grant Park decided to fire four members of the staff within a three-day span. PERC was discriminatory in their firing as they fired the only 2 black people working at the shop, as well as the only transgender people. They claim to have fired us for insubordination and creating a toxic work environment, however, they were unable to provide any evidence or examples of said insubordination. Another thing the 4 of us had in common is we were the most outspoken about unionizing. Something I believe our superiors heard by surveilling and listening to us over the cameras, thus prompting them to fire the people they believed most likely to unionize the staff, as our staff was indeed very unified and got along great.
There is more information and context to be given for this situation, which can be found on my Instagram. However, the reality is that we are all out of a job. None of us have savings and unemployment takes forever to process and is far less than a livable wage. We hate that it has to come to this but crowdfunding is what we need from our community right now in order to survive and make it through this tough and traumatizing experience. We have already received so much support from so many communities who have heard our story and support our cause, we just have one more request: spread this like wildfire! Anything and everything helps y'all. We love y'all and are lucky to have a community to get us through this. Thank you!
