Stand With Our Watershed: Support COVID 19 Relief

Tax deductible
The Flushing Waterways watershed communities—Flushing, East Elmhurst, Corona, Jackson Heights and College Point—are at the epicenter  of the COVID-19 crisis. In the midst of unimaginable loss and crippling unemployment, the communities that surround Flushing Bay and Creek have rallied together to take care of each other.

Guardians of Flushing Bay is calling on our network—residents, water and park users, community stewards and environmental advocates—to support COVID-19 response efforts led by organizations in our five Flushing Bay watershed neighborhoods. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this funding campaign will be evenly distributed to five organizations that are providing direct relief in one of our communities. Some are more established organizations with a separate direct relief fund, and others developed in response to COVID-19 to serve the needs of their local communities. All are critical to the health and wellbeing of our watershed neighbors. We encourage you to share this appeal with your network—friends, family, dragon boat teams, running groups and neighbors.

La Jornada  is a food pantry that distributes food from the Bland Houses in downtown Flushing. You can read more about their COVID-19 efforts in this amNewYork article .

MinKwon Center , located in downtown Flushing, recently launched a 'COVID-19 Share the Relief' fund for undocumented Korean Americans who cannot receive stimulus funding or unemployment.

COVID Care Network  is an East Elmhurst, Jackson Heights and Woodside based mutual aid network started by Nuala O'Doughterty from Jackson Heights Beautification Group. You can listen to her talk about the group on NPR here .

Make the Road NY's COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund provides direct support to workers and low-income immigrant families and to organizing efforts to include the most vulnerable in government solutions, primarily in Jackson Heights and Corona

In collaboration with their College Point partners, Coastal Preservation Network  launched a GoFundMe  for College Point's only local food pantry and for meal delivery to essential workers.

We have selected 5 out of the many organizations and groups offering COVID-19 relief in our watershed. Go here   for a full list of resources, networks and organizations. Please contact us at [email redacted] with any questions or other ideas about how we can further support our watershed communities.
