My dear friend, Bryan Serrano, a U.S. Navy veteran and a person who has spent his life giving to others, needs our support. Bryan dedicated eight years to the Navy, serving as a First Class Petty Officer in the Navy Reserves. During his time in the Reserves, he completed two deployments, serving on Active Duty and ultimately earning an honorable discharge. I've been in the military for twelve years, and I’ve never met anyone like him. Bryan came into my life at a pivotal time, just after I completed my first year in the service, and since then, he has been my closest friend and mentor.
Our friendship started with a spark – literally. While training to become a nuclear machinist mate in Charleston, SC, I was in school with Bryan’s younger brother, Arturo. One day, Arturo asked if I could pick Bryan up from the airport. On our drive, I discovered that Bryan was a fire spinner, and his invitation to teach me that same day intrigued me. Soon enough, we were on the tennis court at my apartment complex, spinning contact fire staffs. Even though he recommended against it, I was so excited that I lit the staff, and I loved every second of it. This moment ignited a close and lasting friendship. Whenever I had time off, I’d travel within my liberty radius to practice and perform with Bryan, from our shifts together at a hookah bar called Tabuli’s to helping him start a hula hooping class in Charleston. We experienced countless progressions in our performances and shared memories that made us like family.
Two weeks ago, I was informed that Bryan was expected to have some level of B-Cell Lymphoma with a high proliferative rate. At that time, we had to wait for additional tests to confirm his diagnosis. Then, this morning on the 31st of October, I learned that he has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Lymphoma and is now in a hospital on Oahu undergoing chemotherapy. Today, I received further updates: the doctors on his case have verified at least three tumors.
Bryan has always been a person who steps up for others. He has volunteered countless hours to improve public spaces, ensuring that his community is safe and welcoming. Grounded in pride for his Mexican and American heritage, he brings integrity, honesty, and compassion to every life he touches.
This is someone who has been a hero, a veteran, and a selfless servant to those around him. Bryan has always given everything he can to make life better for others, and now, it’s our turn to give back.
Your support will go directly toward helping Bryan with medical expenses and the challenges he will face in this fight against Stage 4 Lymphoma. Every contribution, big or small, will make a meaningful difference as he takes on this battle.
Let’s rally together to show Bryan that his lifetime of giving has not gone unnoticed. Thank you for standing by a true hero and a dear friend.
The estimation and goal is set according into information repoted by The National Library of Medicine in The Out-of-Pocket Cost Burden of Cancer Care—A Systematic Literature Review.
All funds have been setup to go directly to Bryan to support his ability to direct them as needed to support his medical and related expenses.
