The Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) is a world-class biomedical facility whose mission is to enhance public health. The ONPRC is home to non-human primates (NHP), who are studied to enhance our scientific understanding of behavior, immunology, metabolism, reproductive biology, brain function, and the biology of diseases. Researchers help develop new drugs, new medical techniques and technologies, and vaccines against terrible diseases.

In the 64 years since its founding, the ONPRC has contributed major biomedical findings that have significantly enhanced public health in America.

Currently, there are groups spreading misinformation, distortions, and outright lies about the research conducted at the ONPRC. The groups behind this propaganda don't care about truth, because they continue their same messaging despite repeatedly being shown some of their claims are false or distorted. Moreover, they claim to be advocates for animal welfare, fully knowing that their attempts to close the institution would result in most of the monkeys being euthanized or sold to commercial testing facilities with far less regulation and transparency.

The purpose of this GoFundMe is because those that work at ONPRC are fed up with the scurrilous propaganda, and want to set the record clear, and advocate for the good, important work we do.

Omigosh, we have been so heartened by the support we've gotten! It has spurred us to work all the harder to save this important institution.

Ever since this fund went up, our group has been growing and meeting and organizing and strategizing and designing and acting!

On 27Apr2026, a multi-element campaign launched, enabled by these funds. On that date, two billboards began displaying 6 advertisements, and 51 buses in three Portland Metro zones began displaying outside advertisements. These ads will continue for 4 weeks. In addition, we have a vigorous social media campaign whose reach is enhanced by these donated funds. The ads in all these formats direct viewers to a website (SaveScienceOregon.org), that provides a full range of information about the value of the research conducted at ONPRC, about the large veterinary staff at the institution, about the many layers of regulated care and protection for animals (especially monkeys) used in scientific experiments, and automated tools for helping visitors advocate on our behalf to those who can affect the fate of the ONPRC.
