Since 2022, our small farm has faced vandalism, threats and a lawsuit due to ongoing property disputes that are making every effort to shut down our farm. Even though we are in RR-2 Zoning that allows and promotes small agriculture. This includes being reported for numerous code violations (which include our greenhouses, farmstand, water tank and water pump). The lawsuit even included a request for the right to spray herbicides adjacent to our crops (they requested to spray the easement that goes through our property which would affect our crops) and cutting into our USDA-supported pollinator hedgerow—putting our crops and vital pollinators at risk.
We’ve spent tens of thousands of dollars just to defend our property rights and our right to farm—and the stress has been nothing short of overwhelming. Nye Ranch has been a farm since 1870. Today, we grow fresh, regenerative produce for the local community and its families, restaurants committed to serving quality ingredients, as well as the schools in the area and the food bank.
When my older brother Kyle and his partner Mel started this family project, they managed to create an incredible and successful farm operation with the capacity to serve to the community while being rooted in an ethical and sustainable relationship with the land. It has been my greatest honor to continue that legacy, which is why I believe that we have so much more left to give. In a time when there is already so much difficulty in cultivating financial longevity as a small family farm, it has been hard to stomach the reality of people trying to undermine what we do.
The intention has always been clear, and we as a family and a business remain motivated to continue doing what we do.
As we grow, evolve and expand, our mission to incorporate more means of service to our community is what gives us so much joy. We firmly believe that this is a time to stick together, dig our heels in and make our cause be known: We are here to stay. We will not let those who wish to impede and disrupt our ability to tend to a harmonious relationship with the land and the community to be the force which holds us back or drags us down.
Which is why we must also be honest with ourselves and all of you, when we say that we could use some help.
We can’t thank our community enough, for we have only gotten this far because of all the big and small things that you do. It is a relationship, that we as a family and a working team couldn’t possibly express with words of gratitude, BUT WE ARE OH SO GRATEFUL!!
If you’re feeling called to support our farm and help us with some of the past and unfortunately ongoing legal costs we have incurred we would greatly appreciate it.
Together, we can keep small family farms alive.
