This fundraiser is being organized by a small cohort of trans mutual aid organizers and is intended to support the TGNC staff of a [currently undisclosed] NYC bookstore that have either been laid off, wrongfully terminated, or otherwise pushed out of their place of work.

Due to a hostile work environment in which the Zionist store owner made explicit queer-phobic actions, such as removing the pride flag from the window, removing queer books from the shelf and relocating the section out of sightline [all while profiting off queer author events during Pride month], several workers filed for disability leave due to increased psychological distress, resulting in the loss of employment.

To help ease the financial burden of lost income, this fund aims to help support the affected staff members.

Upon receipt, the funds will be transferred to one of our bookseller’s personal accounts, who will then distribute the fund via electronic transfer to the booksellers who’ve been targeted.

While we cannot publicly name this business due to protecting the staff’s safety, we can recommend a queer and trans owned bookstore that you should support instead, our comrades at Bluestockings Cooperative.

Though we appreciate your concerns, we are not currently seeking unsolicited advice or feedback. We do intend to take further action once we’ve reached a resolution, but as of now ask that you respect the privacy and dignity of the TGNC workers affected.

As a gesture of solidarity with working-class trans, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming book industry workers, we hope that you’ll donate and spread the word in support of our staff.
