Hello, my name is Nicole, and I’m a disabled mother trying to stay safe and stable for myself and my 9-year-old daughter. We’re currently facing a housing crisis and urgently need help.
I’m being forced out of my home by the property management company after I filed a complaint about how I was treated. The property manager accidentally left the phone line open after our call and said extremely inappropriate things about me. I recorded this incident and reported it, but instead of being taken seriously, I’ve been met with retaliation.
My lease is not being renewed. They’ve refused to make necessary repairs to my home, including my stove and refrigerator, and they have not honored the disability accommodations I need to live safely. I’ve never been late on rent and have no lease violations, yet I’m being pushed out.
I’m on a fixed income (SSA) and cannot afford the legal help I need to fight this or the upfront costs of new housing. My daughter has several medical issues of her own, including an upcoming surgery, and I’m managing my own heart and brain health issues.
We have until September 1st, 2025 to find a safe place to live — or we could end up on the streets.
I’m asking for $25,000 to help with:
Legal fees for a tenant rights attorney
First few month’s of rent + security deposit
Basic household items & moving expenses
Any temporary housing or emergency needs
It’s extremely hard for voucher holders to find landlords in Manhattan, KS who will accept Section 8 — and those who do often fail inspections or are unsafe. I just want a clean, livable, and stable home for my daughter and myself.
If you can donate or share this campaign, it would mean the world to us. Thank you for standing with us during this very scary and uncertain time.
