This GoFundMe account has been established to support the payment of extensive medical expenses for Katie Harris, who is battling lung cancer.
In early October, Katie was diagnosed with Stage IV adenocarcinoma lung cancer. She is the mother of a 3-year-old son, Sam. Her husband, Nicholas Harris, is a short haul
truck driver. Their young family lives in Wood River with their two dogs and two cats.
Katie immediately began an intense round of chemo treatments at the Moeller Cancer Center in Alton. She and Nicholas recently learned that the treatment had no positive impact on the cancer. The doctor recommended a new, more aggressive chemo regimen. In the meantime, she was transferred to Christian Northeast for a specialized drainage procedure to remove excess fluid and mucus from within and around her lungs.
At this time, she remains in ICU where drainage and pain management can be closely monitored. The doctor does not believe her body can tolerate additional chemo. Currently, they are evaluating their options.
Nicholas and Katie do have insurance; but, it has a very high deductible, so the medical
bills are mounting rapidly. Because Katie is unable to work, at this time, and Nicholas - a
short haul truck driver - has missed a lot of work, they genuinely need our assistance to tackle this overwhelming challenge. Additionally, they are in the process of applying for financial aid, and other resources, with the assistance of the hospital.
If you are able, please help us to support them, financially. Even the smallest contribution is genuinely appreciated. If you are not able, please continue to hold Katie, Nicholas, and Sam in your thoughts and prayers as they do their best to navigate this catastrophic situation.
With much gratitude for your consideration…………..
