Stand with Nathan: Overcoming the Unthinkable

Donation protected
On December 7th, 2024, Nathan Demian, a 22-year-old redshirt junior from Vancouver, Canada, was living his dream playing soccer for The Ohio State University. He had just celebrated the team’s 3-0 victory against Wake Forest in the Elite 8. Later that evening, Nathan, accompanied by his younger brother Joel, was making a post-game pizza run when he was shot and injured by a stray bullet during a drive-by shooting. Nathan was rushed to the hospital, where his brother, coaches, and teammates gathered throughout the night, anxiously waiting and praying that Nathan would survive surgery. What they didn’t know was that doctors were doing everything they could just to keep Nathan alive while his family traveled from Vancouver, uncertain if he would survive the surgery.

Genesis 50:20 “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”

Here we are today, just about a week since the shooting, and Nathan has made what we can only describe as a MIRACULOUS recovery. Through Nathan’s pain and suffering, his courage and tenacity have pushed him forward during this incredibly challenging time. With the strength of God, the support of his family, teammates, and friends, Nathan continues to dig deep within himself, pouring his heart, and soul into recovery.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

During this difficult time, our goal is to ensure Nathan receives the best treatment possible. In doing so, we hope to alleviate any potential financial burden on the Demian family so their sole focus can remain on Nathan and his path to recovery. As of right now, the scope of Nathan’s treatment is still uncertain but we do know the nature of his care is extensive given the circumstances. Any funds raised are intended to be used for medical expenses including surgeries, hospital stay, rehab and/or caregivers, medications, and any unforeseen or future necessary treatments. Although there are still many unknowns, each day we celebrate the wins—no matter how big or small—as Nathan continues to fight through the long and challenging road of rehabilitation ahead.
