My mom, who came to the United States legally with a green card in 1979, has just received a notice to appear in removal proceedings. Her court date is set for June 6, 2025. We are devastated, confused, and overwhelmed, but trying to stay strong and hopeful.

She has lived in this country for over 50 years. This is her home. She raised her family here, paid her taxes, and contributed quietly and proudly to the community. But now, with changes in immigration policy and this new administration, she is no longer safe — and is being asked to leave the only home she has known for decades.

My mom is the only family I truly have here. I cannot imagine my life without her.

To fight this, we’ve found an experienced immigration attorney who believes she has a strong case — but legal support comes at a cost. The attorney is asking for $10,000 to take on her case and begin the defense process. We’re doing everything we can on our own, but we can’t do this without help.

It’s extremely difficult for me to ask for assistance. Our Latin pride has always taught us to carry our burdens quietly and work through hardship without complaint.
