My name is Michel Karam, and I'm raising funds for my friend Mohammed, and his father, who were recently detained by ICE.
Mohammad and I go back to our days at Conestoga Middle School and Southridge High School. Like the rest of us, he's an American who grew up right here. He's a hardworking student at Portland State University and a great friend to me and many others, someone who has always looked out for everyone and been there through people's ups and downs. His father is a devoted family man who has looked out for his community and helped families whenever they needed it. What makes this so wrong is that they were detained at what was supposed to be a routine immigration interview, thrown into detention with no justification.
Thankfully, Mohammad and his dad are finally back home after being released on bond. Getting them out took $30,000, which has completely drained the family and put them in a really tough spot financially.
On top of that, their lawyer told us it will take around $50,000 more to fight their case and keep them home. This whole situation has turned their lives upside down out of nowhere, and nobody can handle this kind of sudden cost alone.
Everything raised here goes straight toward covering the $30,000 bond, paying the legal and attorney fees to keep fighting, and helping the family cover basic living costs while they get through this.
No contribution is too small. If you can't donate right now, please share this page, because every share helps get the word out to someone who might be able to.
Thank you so much for standing with Mohammad and his family during such an awful, stressful time.
Goal: $50,000
