Help Me Fight Back: Legal Fund for Civil Rights Discrimination Case
My name is Mishawnna Bynum, and I’m raising funds to cover legal expenses in a civil rights discrimination case that has deeply affected me — and sparked national attention.
On June 26, 2025, I was denied entry to Club Mona Miami by a promoter who told me, in front of witnesses, that I was “too dark and too thick” to be allowed inside. As a Black woman living with lupus, this moment was deeply painful, humiliating, and unacceptable.
This wasn’t just offensive — it was discriminatory, and it violated both my civil rights and protections under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Since sharing my story publicly, the incident has been viewed over 3 million times on social media, generating widespread concern and calls for accountability.
I have taken action:
• I’ve retained a civil rights attorney to pursue this case seriously.
• I’ve filed formal complaints with the U.S. Department of Justice and the Florida Commission on Human Relations.
• I’ve asked for a written response and policy clarification from the club’s management.
But legal action is expensive.
To move forward, I urgently need help covering:
• Attorney retainers and hourly legal fees
• Filing and court costs
• Expert witnesses or investigative expenses, if needed
My goal is to raise $6000 to cover the legal costs of this civil rights case. Any amount you contribute — large or small — helps me take a stand not only for myself, but for others who’ve been treated unfairly and told their identity is not “welcome.”
Thank you for standing with me. Justice deserves a voice — and I’m speaking up.
