On August 10, 2025 Shane Houston’s life changed in an instant when he was seriously injured in a water accident at Lake Pocotopaug in East Hampton, CT.
Shane was found unconscious in the water and- thanks to the quick actions of his mother, Michele, and friends on the boat- he was pulled from the water, given life-saving measures and rushed to a local hospital then transferred to Hartford Hospital.
Doctors at Hartford Hospital discovered severe injuries to his neck and performed surgery on his C3 and C6 vertebrae. Shane is still unable to move the fingers on his right hand and currently needs support for daily activities. He faces a challenging road to recovery that requires rehabilitation and medical care.
Anyone who knows Shane knows his determination, strength and the love he shares with his family and friends. With his parents, Michele and Ken supporting him, and a community of friends cheering him on, we are confident that he’ll keep pushing forward.
But the financial burden for Michele of lost time from work, travel costs and unknown expenses will quickly become overwhelming.
We have created this fund to ask for your support to help ease these stresses so that Michele can continue to stay with Shane and help him focus on healing and recovery. When he is released, Michele will be the one caring Shane, taking him to and from any appointments, etc. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference in allowing this to happen- and equally important, your messages of encouragement will remind Shane and Michele that they’re not alone in this journey.
Thank you so much for your kindness, support and encouragement during this difficult time.
