Stand With Michael's Family After Stroke
Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,
My name is Hannah Marie and I’m reaching out on behalf of my stepfather, Michael McVey, who recently suffered a devastating stroke that left him paralyzed. As of May 1st, 2025 Michael has had an additional stroke while being admitted and has now been transferred to ICU. This sudden and life-altering event has turned his world—and my family’s—upside down.
Michael is a loving father, husband, son, and friend, known for his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. In an instant, he went from being a healthy, fully independent amputee to needing around-the-clock care. Our family is now facing the enormous emotional and financial burden of long-term medical care, rehabilitation, home modifications, and daily living assistance—all while trying to maintain stability for our household. My mother, who has taken extensive leave from her job to be with Michael while he is in the ICU, will need all the help she can get.
We’re raising $15,000 to help cover:
• Ongoing hospital and rehabilitation costs
• Home accessibility modifications (wheelchair ramps, bathroom modifications, etc.)
• Medical equipment and mobility aids
• In-home care and therapy
• Living expenses for his family during this transition
Any amount, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference in Michael's recovery and quality of life. If you’re unable to give, please consider sharing this campaign with others. Your support means the world.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
With gratitude,
Hannah Marie
Update:
Michael had been having extreme headaches. First controlled with pain meds, then uncontrolled. A repeat CT scan revealed a third stroke and he was rushed into surgery. Due to the location of the blockage, the surgeon had informed my mom he was not confident in doing the surgery but this was our last hope. The surgery went well. Michael had to be intubated for breathing assistance post op. At first attempt to remove his breathing tube, they opted to leave in a bit longer due to difficulty but we're able to take it out later in the day. Michael started having uncontrolled headaches again that were not well managed. A follow up CT showed Michael has a small hemorrhage. The CT today, Sunday, shows the bleed is stable. They have made some changes to his medications hoping this will slow or stop the bleed. Right now is a waiting game. His headache today is resolved which is great and he has been awake off and on making his usual jokes. Please continue to pray for our family and share our page.
As of Sunday May 25, Michael is now in a Skilled Post Acute Rehab. After he was discharged, he was sent to one facility but readmitted 5 days later due to vomiting blood. It was found that he had some tears in the esophageal lining due to severe dehydration. After he was hydrated and cared for in the hospital for 2 days, it was requested upon discharge he was sent to a different facility. Sunday morning my mom received a call stating that Michael had fallen face first out of his bed and was taken back to the hospital for evaluation but them transferred back to the facility after they found no fractures. Hopefully things will only get better from here.
Thank you to those who have donated, those who may, those who pray, and those who share. Anything helps and is greatly appreciated more than you can imagine.
