UPDATE: Matt is in positive spirits and fighting hard against this cancer. He has 3 cycles of chemo (M-F) and then 1 for the next 3 weeks and that repeats two more times. He wanted everyone to know he is doing all that he can to make this disease wish it didn't mess with him. His hair is falling out, but he is strong. Thank you all for your support and love.

Matt Sassi, a beloved teacher at Carolina Forest High School, is facing a challenging battle against cancer. After undergoing surgery, doctors discovered the cancer has unfortunately metastasized to his lymph nodes and chest and is at stage 3. Matt is currently awaiting further tests to determine how many rounds of chemotherapy he will need to fight this disease.

Due to the treatments and the compromised immune system that comes with chemotherapy, Matt will need to take a leave of absence for approximately 9 weeks, as he won’t be able to be around students during this time. This means that in addition to the emotional and physical toll of his illness, he is also facing the burden of medical bills and lost wages.
