Mason had a Craniopharyngioma, the size of a softball on his pituitary gland 4 years ago. He had surgery to remove it, and that all went well. They were able to remove most of it, and the rest was treated with radiation. After removal, there was a gap in his brain that normally should not be there, but it was something that he could live with. He routinely goes in to Mayo and gets MRIs done just to make sure nothing is coming back.
Recently though, they found a tumor growing behind his eyes. They had been keeping an eye on it, but it was continuing to grow. The doctor was confident he could remove it going through his nose versus the incision on the top of his head. During surgery, while removing the tumor, Mason started bleeding. They don’t know what caused the bleeding, but it only took seconds and the space in his brain filled with blood. They were able to stop the bleeding, and they quickly went through the top of his head and tried getting the blood out. They weren’t successful. This was never supposed to happen. It was supposed to be a procedure much easier than his first one, but now we are here. They have placed him in a medically induced coma and are continuing to drain the blood. Mason is a fighter but will have a long road of recovery ahead of him. He is currently at the Mayo Clinic up in Rochester. We have no idea at this point how long he will be hospitalized.
We are asking for your help so Gladys is able to stay with Mason and be able to focus all of her energy on him and his recovery. Gladys has four other children and will probably be off of work for months at this point. If you are not able to donate, a share helps to get this amazing family the help they need. Mason is one of the most amazing kids I have ever met, truly could not imagine a more deserving family in such a difficult situation.
