Stand with Maria Tavares: Cancer and Hope

Calling All Angels for Maria Tavares: Cancer & Chemo.

Many of you know the Tavares/Silva family and the significant losses we have faced. We have suffered the heartbreaking loss of six of our ten matriarchs, including Diane Silva-Tavares, who tragically passed away from her own fight with cancer that was exacerbated by Covid in 2021. The devastating impact of cancer has deeply affected our family and has now reached the younger generation.

Just three and a half years after losing Diane, her youngest daughter, Maria Tavares, received the shattering diagnosis of osteosarcoma, an extremely rare form of bone cancer, at the young age of 28. This aggressive cancer is impacting her leg and requires immediate chemotherapy, followed by surgery to remove the tumor, along with a complete knee replacement.

Recently, Maria returned to Massachusetts from Atlanta, GA, where she currently lives with her dad, well-known musician, Amilton Tavares, Sr. and his wife Lee. She is receiving care at the renowned Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, which offers exceptional treatment. Her recovery journey is poised to last approximately two years, during which time she will have no income.

Given the astronomical costs of her healthcare, as a family, we are uniting to support Maria through this extremely difficult time. We deeply appreciate any help you can provide, no amount is too small.
