Our son, Makaio, is a tender-hearted 17-year-old who loves Jesus and his family deeply. He’s a huge Denver Broncos and LA Lakers fan, and he enjoys playing his PS5 and Nintendo Switch to help pass the long days of treatment. We can’t wait for the day he’s past this battle so he can truly begin his life.

Makaio is courageously fighting cancer that has now returned twice. Doctors have given him only a 15% chance of survival. After the first relapse, when the cancer had spread, we were overwhelmed with joy and gratitude to learn that the cancer was completely gone and no metabolic activity was showing. He was healed!

Before the cancer returned the second time, Makaio was just days away from traveling to Seattle to begin the bone marrow transplant process. We were so hopeful — but when the cancer came back, he was unable to go forward with the transplant.

Now, for the first time, the cancer has reached his bone marrow. With over 59% involvement, his T-cell lymphoma has advanced into T-cell leukemia.

He is undergoing intensive chemotherapy, with the hope that the cancer will respond so he can enter a clinical trial and, eventually, receive a bone marrow transplant. He must first reach remission before the transplant can take place, but this cancer is known to return more aggressively, which we have already experienced.

While this journey is frightening, our faith in Jesus and His healing power is greater. We are standing in faith, believing for complete healing, and holding onto hope every step of the way.
