Six months into the ongoing atrocities in Palestine, Mahmoud came into my life. Now, he is forever my beloved brother. Mahmoud Abu Omar is a farmer. He loves cats and birds. He has a wife who is pregnant and three young children. He cares for his parents, and he helps the people around him who are also displaced inside of this terrible happening, of which we're all aware. His sweetness, thoughtfulness, humor, resilience, and love, even under such heinous and awful conditions, are intact, powerfully inspiring, and beautiful.
As is true for many folks, Mahmoud and I became acquainted through social media as Palestinians began reaching out for help.
A friend of mine ( Seth ) and I, in California, have been sending what we can to Mahmoud and his family each month. Between the two of us, we've been able to send a couple hundred dollars at a time. We humbly ask for your help in broadening the network of support for Mahmoud, his family, and his community of displaced neighbors. We hope that by sharing in this initiative, we will be able to afford them critical necessities, and to see them through this time of devastation and terror. Especially, as prices of what little goods make it through the blockades continue to rise.
We have hope that we can see them through this. Our promise to Mahmoud is that we will continue to stand by him, his family, and all the people of Palestine no matter what.
Here are his words regarding his current circumstances:
"I am Mahmoud from Gaza, married with 3 children and my wife is pregnant. We have been displaced from our home more than 10 times. We now live in Khan Yunis in a tent. Our home was bombed and my brother was martyred in this war. I suffer a lot because of the movement and because of this war. We are suffering a lot because of the lack of food, drink, diapers, clothes, and blankets for my children and pregnant wife.
We suffer a lot in the summer from the temperature in the tent, and we suffer in the winter from the rain and wind. We suffer from everything. We suffer from the closure of the crossings and the inability to provide food for my family and young children."
Please donate whatever you can, and of course, please share this campaign far and wide. Every effort counts. Every bit of aid makes a difference for the survival of many.
I will be collecting donations and transferring every bit of them to Mahmoud's bank account with the help of my friend, as his financial institution has the lowest international transfer fee (at $40) of any other that we've seen.
All funds will be used to purchase food, acquire water, diapers, medication, clothing, and bedding.
In love and solidarity,
Adam
