For those of you that don't know, my baby girl Madison is a 3-time cancer survivor of Retinoblastoma. It's cancer in her eyes. She was born with 4 tumors on her left eye and one very large tumor in her right eye. She's had multiple surgeries and chemotherapy treatments since she was less than a year old. She was born with the cancer gene in her body. She will more than likely fight cancer for the rest of her life. Any child born from her will also carry this gene. She is blind in her right eye due to cancer. For the last year, she's had issues with her right eye and has been having to take injections in said eye every month due to problems.
Last Saturday, Madison was experiencing bad headaches and said it felt like her eye was about to pop. I rushed her to the ER. Several hours later, we were told we needed to schedule an appointment with her eye specialist ASAP.
She had an appointment to see him in Mobile on Tuesday. He went in and looked at everything and wouldn't tell us much at all other than we need to be seen in Birmingham with her main eye doctor ASAP.
Her Birmingham appointment was today and we are leaving now headed back to Mobile. We have found out that Madison's cancer has returned for the 4th time. Her tumor in her right eye has progressed to twice the size it was originally at a very fast pace and growing! She also has a severe retina detachment. Note: this is her bad eye.
Dr. Mason, her eye specialist in Birmingham, wants to have emergency surgery on her ASAP. He has a surgeon that's going to meet us in a couple of days in Birmingham along with scheduled MRIs and CT scans with her chemotherapy doctor. Madison will be having surgery to have her eye removed ASAP within the next 2 weeks.
He is very confident that removing the eye will take care of everything and prevent my baby from going through any more pain.
We are not 100% sure that she will not have to do chemotherapy; that all depends on MRIs and CT scans.
That's all the details I have right now. I'm asking for all my friends and family that took the time to read this to please pray for my baby girl! She's a warrior! We will get through this once again! If anyone is able to donate for medical expenses and traveling back and forth to Birmingham, please do. It will help tremendously as I have to take off work to be by her side as she fights her battle once again.
Ty!
