Maddie Wilshire was supposed to be starting the best year of her life.

Maddie was preparing to begin her senior year at Coastal Carolina University—looking forward to the final year of college, the memories she would make with friends, and everything that comes with reaching such an important milestone.

On Sunday, August 16th, Maddie’s life was changed forever when she was struck by a vehicle in a devastating collision, sustaining catastrophic injuries. After the accident, Maddie was taken to Charleston's Spine and Trauma Center, where she was evaluated for a fractured back. She also underwent surgery for a broken pelvis and leg. She remains there receiving care and will eventually return home to North Carolina for continued treatment and recovery.

A senior year that was supposed to be filled with celebrations, friendships and anticipation for the future has instead become a fight for Maddie’s health and recovery.

She shouldn’t have to face this alone.

Right now, Maddie’s family is dealing with things no parent ever imagines. There are hospital bills and medical expenses, but there are also all the other costs that come when your life is suddenly turned upside down—traveling back and forth to the hospital, being away from work, and simply being there for your daughter when she needs you most.

No one knows what the coming weeks and months will look like for Maddie or her family. What we do know is that the road ahead will be long and difficult, and the last thing her family should have to worry about right now is how they’ll pay for it.

We are asking the Coastal Carolina community, the Conway and Myrtle Beach community, and everyone who knows and cares about Maddie to come together for her and her family.

Funds raised will help Maddie and her family with medical, recovery, and other expenses arising from this tragedy.

Our hope is to give Maddie's family one less thing to worry about, so they can put all of their energy into what matters most—being by Maddie's side, supporting her, and helping her through the difficult road ahead.

If you knew Maddie, you know she is so much more than what happened that tragic Sunday morning. She is a daughter, a friend, a classmate, and a member of the Coastal Carolina community.

She was supposed to be celebrating her senior year.
