Stand with Lainey in Her Leukemia Battle

Lainey wasn’t feeling good last friday so we took her to urgent care on last Saturday and found out she had an ear infection in her right ear and what seemed to be an upper respiratory infection. Tuesday comes around and Lainey’s stomach started to swell so we took her to her pediatrician and she was tested for influenza her test came back positive for influenza A. A couple days past and she’s not peeing much and swelling more and oxygen was low so we talked to her pediatrician and were told to take her to the er. They then ran blood test and her white blood count was 70,000 when the normal is 4,000 to 12,000 we were then transferred to children’s in Pittsburgh they did a blood smear test and they found abnormal cells in her blood which is a sign of leukemia. Lainey was then admitted to children’s and they started further testing the next morning this test confirmed that she has AML( Acute Myeloid Leukemia). Lainey then started to show some discomfort within her breathing so her pediatrician‘s here and oncologist felt it was necessary to transfer her to pediatric intensive care unit for some high flow oxygen. Between her oncologist pediatricians, and all the physicians that we’ve seen came up with a plan to work aggressively with chemotherapy to treat this leukemia immediately. Lainey then went Friday morning to the OR to have a Broviac line put in as well as her bone marrow done and during that time she had to be put to sleep for those procedures and because of how much Lainey was struggling with her breathing prior they felt it was best to leave her on a ventilator until she gets better from the flu. Lainey’s first night of chemo was Friday at 9 PM. she did very well with the first round. We met with the doctors this morning and they had a little bit of concern because her kidney function was abnormal so she had to have a port put in her leg to now be on dialysis until she gets better. Overall, through all of this she is a fighter. She’s doing very well. We just had a few bumps in the road. Lainey will be on 4 rounds of chemotherapy over a 4 month period. Please keep us in your prayers and I’ll update as much as i can.

We would be so grateful for any contributions and shares.
