My name is Kristin Cooper. I recently had a double mastectomy for two different invasive kinds of stage 2 breast cancer. I was lucky enough my job allowed me to take off the 4 weeks of recovery time needed ( I am the Business Office Manager in a Long Term Care Nursing Facility that is a 50 minute drive one way for me).
Immediately after recovery I returned to work, only to begin the 5 weeks of radiation treatment as well. On top of my 8 hours of work and treatment daily, I was also driving over 4 hours to accomplish this.
Work was being wonderful working with me during this time. My Administrator and HR Director were in constant contact with me. My work Team also devoted a day to me and arranged a Meal Train and were sending flowers. They were my main support.
Week 4 & 5 of Radiation brought severe fatigue and skin burns, once again forcing me to take another Leave of Absence. May 10th was my last day of Radiation, and I was to return back to work on May 13th. Unfortunately on May 9th I received a termination letter from the Corporate Office, stating I had exhausted my 6 weeks of LOA.
*Please note, I was 12 days shy of being with this company for one year
Now I am without insurance, have no employment, and have multiple surgeries still upcoming this year.
The money raised will go to pay for these surgeries and doctor's appointments
