Just two weeks after giving birth to a beautiful baby girl, Kim underwent emergency surgery initially thought to be a ruptured appendix. Shortly after, she received the shocking and devastating news that she has stage 4 cancer. At a time when she should have been home resting and snuggling her babies, she received the hardest news of her life.
Appendix Cancer is incredibly rare and hard to treat. Because it’s so uncommon, there are no standard treatment guidelines, and many patients must travel to specialized centers for expert care. The disease often goes undetected until it has already spread, requiring complex surgeries and intensive treatments. Kim now faces a long and uncertain road ahead, fighting for her health while still giving every bit of love and strength she can to her little ones.
Anyone fortunate enough to have Kim in their life knows that she has always been the one to show up for others. Whether it is being an incredible wife to Tom, a selfless and loving mom to River and Emerson, a rock for her friends and family, or a caring nurse for her patients, Kim has always been there.
Now, it is our turn to show up for her.
Kim will need specialized lifesaving surgery that requires her to travel to Baltimore for the best possible care. She is scheduled to undergo a 10-15 hour surgery that entails extensive organ removal followed by a heated chemotherapy solution circulated throughout the abdomen. This procedure will require a two-week hospital stay, followed by her and her family staying in Baltimore for several weeks to be closely monitored. The money we raise will help cover the cost of hospital expenses, housing, post-surgery treatment, and other medical-related expenses. Our goal is to alleviate the overwhelming financial burden that cancer puts on a patient, so that Kim and her family can focus on her recovery.
