Stand with Kevin Cox for Safer Streets
Donation protected
I am Kevin Cox. I am an activist working to improve pedestrian safety in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The city government has refused to install a marked crosswalk at a regularly used pedestrian crossing at 2nd St. SE and Elliot Avenue in Charlottesville. The city has instead told pedestrians to walk uphill, in the street, to the next intersection and use the crosswalk there. Even without the crossing is a legal pedestrian crossing and people use it every day. The crossing needs a marked crosswalk badly. The city government has rejected numerous requests for a crosswalk, including a petition with over 900 signatures.
In protest of their refusal, I used spray chalk to mark the lines of a marked crosswalk. I was arrested and charged with vandalism, and I will be tried on July 14. I have retained a lawyer, and now I need help with legal fees.
