I’m reaching out on behalf of my sister, Kelsey, her husband Jake, and their two boys, Jaxson and Jett. Many of you know them as a hardworking, kind, and giving family. For the last 13 years, Jake and Kelsey have poured their lives into running a small landscaping business that has faithfully served our local community.

Last week, tragedy struck. While working in the rain with a weed trimmer, Jake accidentally hit a hidden bees nest and was swarmed. In the chaos, he fell badly and suffered severe injuries. He was rushed into emergency surgery, where doctors placed a permanent rod in his tibia, repaired his broken fibula, and stabilized his shattered ankle with six screws.

Jake faces a very long and uncertain recovery. Doctors have told him he will be unable to walk for at least 12 weeks, and it may be a year or longer before he regains some stability. Because landscaping is such physically demanding work, this leaves the family in a very vulnerable place.

Kelsey and their 16-year-old son are doing everything they can to keep the business afloat while also caring for Jake at home. Their younger son has stepped up to help around the house, but the weight is heavy for all of them. Along with everyday expenses—rent, groceries, and utilities—they now face mounting medical bills and the uncertainty of how Jake’s injury will affect their financial future.

This is a family who has always been quick to help others. Now, they are the ones in need.
