Kayson Shumpert is the middle child in his tight-knit family. He enjoys playing basketball, football, church activities, and family get-togethers. When Kayson was born, he was diagnosed with a rare heart defect called Double Outlet Right Ventricle with a Sub-Aortic Ventricular Septal.
Kayson has Dextrocardia, which means his heart is positioned on the right side of his body instead of the left. This is a rare congenital birth defect. Kayson and his mother, Janisha, have made several trips to the Pediatric Cardiology Clinic at Le Bonheur in Memphis and the Le Bonheur outpatient clinic in Tupelo, MS.
Kayson has had to endure multiple surgical procedures and hospital stays since he was born.
On June 11, 2025, he will be having open-heart surgery, and this operation is going to be complicated and risky, but it's necessary for his life. The recovery time is unknown due to what the surgeon finds during the procedure to be corrected.
Janisha will be unable to work since she's her son's primary caregiver. Financial help is greatly appreciated and needed to aid Kayson and his family for the months ahead.
