Hello Everyone,
Thank you for being here and for showing support to one of the biggest fighters that I know! My hope is that if you’ve clicked on this page that you have probably read some of Katelyn’s story. Whether you know the whole story or just parts of it, please remember how hard this lady is fighting for herself & her family!
Katelyn’s been fighting with her body since I met her in 2011. Doctor after Doctor, medicine after medicine, procedure after procedure! And yet none of this has stopped her perseverance, her strength, and her general fight against her own body!
She has been on this most recent journey within the last 3 1/2 years, and it’s been a damn brutal one. She’s been to see specialists in every big city nearby and she’s currently working with doctors in Denver who have hopes to help her, but they have had some major setbacks due to the “rules” of her insurance. The absolute worst part is that the insurance company is playing puppeteer and they are torturing her with these awful medicines that have not made any improvements on her diagnosis and are quite frankly putting Katelyn’s life at risk! We are so fed up with the insurance “game” and we are ready to help her get this stronger medicine that the Denver doctors want her to take for her diagnosis. Katelyn has been diagnosed with SIBO: small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, meaning that her small intestines don’t work properly, which is why she desperately needs this medication. Another diagnosis she has received, after many uncomfortable procedures is that she has a nonfunctioning sphincter. Being malnourished causes so many other problems that people just don’t realize! So we are here asking for assistance in getting her this medication that can hopefully give her a chance at having some improvements.
On June 16th, Katelyn received an email with the cash price of the medication she is so desperately trying to get... $2,623.22
That's for a 3x a day, 14 day dose of 550mg. This is the medication that's is supposed to "fix" everything. Her insurance has denied this 5x, telling her that if she just takes THIS antibiotic then they'll pay for the expensive antibiotics. When their said antibiotics have been taken and they are again approached, it's another "oh try this certain diet first THEN we'll pay"... the reality is, she just doesn’t eat much; and she is so incredibly tired of going through these hoops... it has been very defeating to do all the things they ask and they still refuse to hold their end up.
In addition to the medicines that have been wreaking havoc on Katelyn’s struggling body, she has been having non-epileptic seizures since October 26, 2023. That's when she was life-flighted to Billings with her first seizure. These seizures have changed in how they are triggered and some of these new medicines have created new triggers as well. Katelyn has worked really hard to manage these seizures, but no matter how hard she tries they are still happening and they don’t just affect her for the moment, it’s a lengthy recovery process when she is finally able to catch her breath afterwards. The only diagnosis they have given to these non-epileptic seizures is a Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). Katelyn has been tracking her triggers for these seizures and they include: Elevated pain levels, Heat, Cold, Hot to cold, Cold to hot, Eating, Over exertion, Working out, Stress/ overwhelming situations. Katelyn’s body outwardly projects what it feels on the inside and she is completely awake and aware of what's happening. It's like her body and brain disconnect completely. She is aware of what is happening, it's dark and scary, but she can't tell her body to stop. Sometimes her body shakes or is convulsing for over an hour. The frequency of these seizures have increased and her fragile body can’t keep going through them.
She is currently reached a point where her body is starting to visibly atrophy... she was told that they are definitely not out of the clear and that she is at a stable stage with the knowledge that things can go in a very different direction very rapidly.
Katelyn’s body is shutting down and attacking itself from the inside again and she is in a constant state of incredible pain. And regardless of all of her efforts, she is also continuing to lose weight.
Let’s get a big Wyoming rally going, like we’ve done before, for this brave lady! Katelyn is an amazing mom to 3 beautiful kids, a loving wife, an incredibly talented self taught baker, a lifeguard instructor & pool manager, and a former substitute teacher who was loved by all she encountered.
Please take the time to share her heartbreaking story with the world again, as not much has improved since the last rally we did! If you are able to, please send some prayers her way, send some good thoughts, some good vibes, and especially remember to include her husband and children, as this has not been easy on them either.
We appreciate any and all support that comes her way as this ongoing uphill battle continues!
