Stand with Kassidy: Mark's Medical Crisis

***Update***

I don't know if Kassidy and Mark spent their childhoods breaking every mirror in the house while running under ladders and opeing an umbrellas or what but, the situation has gotten worse financially.

First, Thank you all so much! From monetary donations to physical donation to words of encouragement, you guys are showing up! A HUGE thank you to all of you and to those who have shared. You guys are rockstars.

Unfortunately Mark did not get approved for disability. Now that unemployment knows he cant work, they feel disability should pay. The doctors have said Mark cannot work for 4 months *Minimum* and must stay off of his foot at all times. The entities in place to help with such unexpected costs are no help.

The doctor has added another speacialist. Surprise, surprise, the insurance declined to pay for it. Pretty sure Marks insurance company exists so you can check the box on your taxes saying that you had health insurance all year.

Our healthcare system is broken and is trying to break our friend right along with it. If you earned money with the level of effort you put in, we would all be vacationing on Kassiy and Mark's yacht outside of their villa in the Maldives. Please keep this going. Please keep praying for Mark to heal and for strength for both Mark and Kassidy. Hopefully the appeals process will lead to relief at some point but until then, we must assume no help is coming unless her awesome friends and family provide it. You've been great providers so far, lets keep up the good work!

I think we all know that Kassidy would never ask for any kind of help like this, but im not Kassidy.

For years, I have watched this woman give 110% at all times. She dedicates her life to her family and friends. Constantly showing up, willing her cup to be deeper and fuller so she can continue to pour her love into all of our lives. It doesn't matter what life is throwing at her. She just pulls herself up by her boot straps and handles business like a boss. Lately, those boot straps have been getting worn pretty thin. Even bosses deserve to catch a break every now and then.

Kassidy and Mark are currently facing a medical battle to save Mark's foot. The infection has reached the bone, and his insurance doesn't seem to think they should pay for most of the expensive medications, supplies, and doctor visits. The specialist that Mark needs to see on a weekly basis alone is $200. Twice daily bandage changes, the ointments, creams, antibiotics, etc. All requiring cash up front and all are needed to give mark the best chance of recovery.

Mark should be receiving antibiotics through a pic line (but the cheapo insurance wont cover that either so it will be oral antibiotics that make him sick) and is required to stay off his foot as much as possible for at least 6 weeks. Then, they will reassess the situation and decide the course of treatment. Worst case, sensario is amputation. In the best case scenario, there is healing, but it will still be a long road to recovery. Diabetic foot sores are notoriously dangerous and often refuse to heal fully.

6 weeks of not having the ability to work. 6 weeks of bandage changes and doctor visits. 6 weeks of unexpected costs at a time when even expected costs are a struggle. Kassidy is trying everything to get side jobs and second jobs but with the gap between unemployment and temporary disability and the cut in income from the unemployment in the first place, there is just nothing left over for these added expenses. Peter and Paul have been talking and they see whats up.

Kassidy would never ask for monetary help, but I am asking. I am asking that we come together to support our friend and her family, who have been there for us all so many times before. Any bit helps. Even ordering medical supplies and having them shipped, a frozen casserole to allow for an easier night, volunteering time to assist with bandage changes when Kassidy isn't available. Let's fill Kassidy's cup this time. If anyone i know is deserving of a break from life's little kicks, it is her.
