Stand with Julie and Her Children

Hi I’m Roxana . I’m a union steward and work with Julie Papastergiou. We’ve been fighting to get Julie her job back as this has been an extreme hardship on her and her children. Julia is a optometric assistant in the state of Oregon, because of the proximity with the state of Washington Oregon workers are required to obtain Washington registration for administering drops— even when they don’t work in Washington. Julie submitted all of her registration paperwork back in February and due to a clerical mistake in misplacing her file Julie has been in limbo with it getting processed. The state Washington has a long backlog in processing and there is a gray area in Oregon law which prevents her from working without this registration because of this she was put on unpaid administrative leave in May. She has been calling every day but since she is an Oregon worker the state of Washington does not prioritize her file. In the meantime Julie has been out of work with rent and other living expenses piling up. We have been advocating in her behalf to senior management to get her back working while she waits for her paperwork to be processed, but this has to go through HR and is unlikely to be allowed. We are asking for help in getting Julie caught up with bills and rent while she waits so she can keep her children with her. Please help if you are able and share if you are not.
