On Saturday, October 18th, 2025, at approximately 12:00 P.M, Jose Terrazas' father, Angel Terrazas, was detained by ICE agents while he was buying lunch from a local street vendor near the cross streets of 43rd and Walcott in the Southwest side of Chicago. Mr. Terrazas has no criminal record or prior deportation orders that would have prompted ICE agents to have approached him. As he was waiting for his food, an unmarked ICE vehicle drove up to the food truck, ICE agents walked out, and approached him for no other reason than his appearance and color of his skin.
Mr. Terrazas is a husband to Olga and the father to Jose and 3 other children who are 19, 17, and 14. His daughter, Maria, is a full-time student at the University of Illinois Chicago and the mother of a one-year-old daughter. His son, Christian, is a senior at Lane Tech College Prep and a competitive boxer who aspires to attend UIC next fall. His youngest son, Jonathan, is a freshman at Lane Tech and plays soccer for both KICS FC and the Lane Tech soccer team.
Mr. Terrazas arrived in the U.S. in 2002 on a tourist visa, which he ended up overstaying. In the 23+ years that he’s been in the United States, he has amassed no criminal record. Angel is the owner of a small business, offering construction services within the Chicagoland area. Mr. Terrazas' detention has brought tremendous sadness and hardship his family. Friends, neighbors, and clients have expressed deep concern and dismay over what they describe as an unjust and unnecessary detention.
