We are reaching out on behalf of Jon and his family as they face one of the hardest seasons of their lives. What began as concerning symptoms—balance issues, headaches, and nausea—has led to a diagnosis no one ever wants to hear. After multiple scans and a biopsy, Jon has been diagnosed with Grade 4 Glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer.

The last few days have been especially difficult. Jon's mobility has significantly decreased—he is no longer moving his right leg or foot, and his left side has weakened—meaning it now takes multiple trained people to move him safely from bed to wheelchair, or into the car for appointments.

He has now been admitted to the UW oncology department. As soon as he is stable, Jon will begin radiation treatment, and potentially low-dose oral chemotherapy alongside it.

This GoFundMe has been created to help ease the financial burdens that come with such a rapid and life-altering diagnosis. Funds will help cover medical costs, time away from work, transportation, specialized caregiving needs, and the many unexpected expenses that arise in a journey like this. Our hope is to surround the Ballast family with enough support that they can focus fully on Jon’s care, stability, and comfort in the days ahead.
