Dr. Joe Zhou, beloved husband of Sally and devoted father to their children, Grace and Max, passed away on the morning of June 12, 2024, after battling complications from metastatic kidney cancer.

In his youth at Caltech, Joe found joy in rock climbing. Later in life, he and Sally explored their mutual love for ocean life, from swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving to fishing, spear fishing, crabbing, clamming, and tide pool exploration. Joe cherished family travel, savoring culinary delights from around the world. At home, gardening brought him peace, and his passion for discus keeping was well-known. In recent years, foraging for wild mushrooms became a shared adventure, expanding his zest for life.

Joe was deeply respected and admired by his colleagues, friends, and family, and his absence will be profoundly felt.
