Help Support our Friend, Co-worker & Employee Joei in Her Fight Against Cancer

Joei is a staple and beloved member of our Whiskey Republic team in downtown Redlands. If you’ve ever been there and greeted by the fun, loving big hearted hostess with the biggest smile on her face, then you know Joei!

Here is a little bit about what Joei is facing having just recently been diagnosed with stage three cancer.

Over the past few months, she began experiencing symptoms that she knew wasn’t normal. As things worsened in January, she visited multiple urgent care clinics and the ER at Loma Linda, but each time she was told it was just a normal issue.

It wasn’t until she was finally able to get PPO insurance that she was scheduled for a colonoscopy on March 4th. During that procedure, biopsies were taken, and on March 11th, she received the life-changing diagnosis: colon cancer.

Since then, the incredible team at City of Hope in Upland has taken over her care. She has been traveling 3 to 4 times a week for appointments, tests, scans, and classes to prepare for both chemotherapy and radiation.

On April 18, she had a port placed in her chest, which will be used to administer her chemotherapy. Her treatment plan includes daily radiation Monday through Friday, alongside ongoing chemotherapy — all at City of Hope in Upland.

Joei a single mom, lives in Yucaipa, so this means daily travel, with only weekends to rest and recover.

It’s been incredibly difficult for her to ask for help. She has always been someone who works hard — often 7 days a week — and now has been unable to work for over a month and a half. The emotional, physical, and financial toll has been overwhelming.
