Meet BK Jess – Lupus Warrior GRRRRRRR

Hey everyone, my name is Jessica – but most of you know me as BK Jess. I’m a proud Lupus Warrior, a single mom, and a woman with a big heart and an even bigger smile.

I was diagnosed with Lupus in 2019, and at first, I thought my world was falling apart. But instead of giving up, I decided to fight back. I started sharing my journey on TikTok, talking openly about my struggles and triumphs. I had no idea what I was doing at first (lol), but over time I realized I was inspiring others—just by being myself.

I’m all about keeping a high spirit. I love to laugh, dance, run, and work out, even when Lupus tries to slow me down. I joined the amazing Central Florida Run Club (CFRC), and I’ve even completed two 5Ks. For me, that was HUGE. Living with Lupus means pushing through flareups, pain, and exhaustion—but I never stop smiling.

Why I’m Asking for Help

On May 10, Lupus hit me hard. I went on TikTok Live that day feeling off, but I had no idea what was coming. I ended up in the hospital, unable to walk from pain and inflammation that spread through my whole body. I’ve been here since, and now I’m being transferred to an in-patient rehab facility for physical and occupational therapy.

It’s scary not knowing how long recovery will take. The pain is real. The fatigue is overwhelming. But I’m not giving up. I just missed an important run on May 17, but the hospital and my online fam helped lift my spirits and even gave me my own mini-run in the hallways (LOL – yes, really!). And it felt amazing.

What I Need

Right now, I’m facing a tough financial struggle. I recently started a new job, but I’m still on probation—so no sick days, no PTO, no paycheck. I need this job to keep my medical coverage for my Lupus care, but with no income, my bills are piling up fast.
