Stand with Jerry and Misty in Their Fight

Donation protected
We are raising money for Jerry and Misty Myrick. Jerry was in a motorcycle wreck on Sunday May 26, 2024. Misty is not able to work due to staying with Jerry around the clock, he has not responded to any commands at this time. They are currently at UAB Hospital here are all the details and updates… Update 6/5: His lungs are starting to look better. The plan for today is to start lowering the sedation medication and continue to work on lowering the vent settings. They did a CT of his brain also yesterday. I didn't know they were doing that but it showed he has a DAI brain injury which takes a lot longer to heal from and they feel like that is why he was not responding to the commands. They still have the MRI ordered so they can get a better look at it to see exactly what is going on with it. They said sometimes it can take weeks to months for people to wake up from it. They can't say for sure because each patient is different. Oh and also I am pretty sure I have poison ivy now

Update 6/4: The chest X-ray shows a little improvement but still some fluid in there. They said they feel like he is able to be moved to get some CT scans done on the lungs and stomach. They are checking to make sure there isn't something going on that is causing the high fever. They have him lying flat right now to see how he will do. So far so good. They still can't do the MRI just yet because of the vent settings. He said they need to be lower before they can do the MRI so hopefully he will be able to in a few days. They are still planning on lowering the vent settings but it will be baby steps each day so that they do not lose the progress they have made in the last 12 hours. This fever is around 102 donut has come down.

Update 6/3: He is currently in respiratory failure but they are trying different medications to help with that. His fever is really high. It's 104.5. They did a scope procedure to suction some stuff off his lungs. His blood pressure got pretty high so they gave him a paralytic medication to help him stay relaxed. They did another culture on his lungs last night so maybe they can see what type of antibiotics to try next. He has not really been responding to the antibiotics they have tried so far. Today they are going to work on getting him more relaxed and stable and start trying to lower the vent settings if possible. Just pray for healing for his lungs.

Update 6/2: His chest X-ray shows the lungs may be a little worse. They are starting him on a different medication to help break it up a little more. His fever is around 102. They are have the settings turned back up to do all the work for him and they increased his fentanyl to help keep him more relaxed. He will be having another rest day today. The nurse said they will probably be in and out adjusting settings and medication until they get him where they want him. We just need these lungs to get healthy so they can remove the vent.

Update 6/1: He got moved to the ninth floor this morning about 2:00. His breathing is really labored so they have him have him fully sedated again. They are going to start back the fentanyl drip for pain and to help lower his heart rate. He will be sedated all day. They said his lungs are just too sick and he is having to work too hard so they want the machine and medicine to do the work for him today so that he can rest and let them heal. His new room number is 9517 on the ninth floor.

Update 5/31: Not much change so far this morning. They did stop the fentanyl drip. They are just giving it through the IV as needed but they have the sedation set at 35. He still isn't responding to the commands so they are going to do an MRI just to make sure there isn't anything going on that they can't see on the CT. They will also be able to check his neck with the MRI so if everything looks good they will remove the collar. Just pray the MRI comes back good. Other than that he is still resting good.

New update 5/30: They have him pretty much breathing on his own. They just turned the sedation down from 50 to 10 so I am hoping he will come around more today. He does have Pneumonia but the antibiotics they already have him on is the correct one. The lasix is working good to help pull the fluid of his lungs. He opened his eyes on the last 2 exams. He barely squeezed my hand but I don’t really know if it was just reflex or he knowingly did it because he wouldn’t respond to any other commands. The brain scan show no change which means the blood thinners they are not causing any new bleeding which is good.

Update 5/30: They did another chest xray. They said the E2 (not sure what that is)was high so they just had to adjust the breathing tube. He said it probably got pulled a little when they took him for the brain scan so nothing to worry about there. The brain scan was still the same and there wasn’t no new blood so maybe the blood thinners will be able to continue. He said they may do another brain scan latter today just the keep a watch while he is on the thinners. He did open his eye for the whole exam this last time and they have turned the machine down to where Jerry is doing most of the breathing instead of the machine.
And it’s only 5:30 AM so I hope today is the day he responds to the commands so they can get the tube out.

Update 5/29: he does have blood clots in both legs. They are going to put in the filter sometime today to keep any from getting to the heart. He has pneumonia. They have him on antibiotics for that and giving him breathing treatments. They are putting what they call a hat on him to monitor his brain activity. He is still on some sedation and strong pain medication and still isn’t obeying commands right now. Please keep praying for him.

Another update 5/28: He has some small blood clots in his lungs. They said where they are there isn’t anything to worry about right now. They can’t give him blood thinner because of the blood on the brain. They are going to check his legs for clots and if they find some they will put in a filter below the heart to keep them from getting to the heart. They are also starting to try to slowly reduce the sedation medication. They are wanting to have him off the vent within 48 hours if possible.

Update Tuesday 5/28: The ct from this morning shows improvement so he is healing. They are going to try to be more aggressive today and wake him up for longer periods of time as long as he can tolerate it. So hopefully we will see a change and he will start responding to their commands. So far he hasn’t been doing that. Once he does they can take the breathing tubes out

New update: the neuro surgeon said that the scan from this morning is looking more like really bad bruising more than bleeds. He said he thinks that Jerry can make a full recovery. He is still sedated and intubated. He will remain this way until he can respond and follow commands which he is not currently doing. He has 5 fractured ribs on the left side and 1 on the right side. Please keep those prayers coming. Also thank you all in advance.

Update: he has 2 brain bleeds and several broke ribs. He is still intubated and sedated.

Please pray for my husband Jerry Myrick. He had a bad motorcycle wreck.
