Support Our Mom, Jennifer, in Her Fight Against Cancer

Hi everyone,

We’re writing this as Jennifer (Salud) Lee Hooker’s children — not just to ask for help, but to share how much our mom means to us and how strong she’s been through something no one should have to face alone.

Six weeks ago, our lives changed when our mom was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. Since then, she’s had surgery, multiple blood transfusions, gone through painful procedures, and is now preparing to start 5 months of chemotherapy and iron infusions. She’s a Thalassemia carrier (genetic blood disorder) and also has low iron anemia, which makes everything even harder on her body.

But even with all of this, our mom still goes to work full-time, taking care of others, and trying to keep things as normal as possible for us. She told us she doesn’t want her cancer to change our lives — that we should still go to school, work, and live our lives. That’s who she is. She’s always been the one who shows up for everyone — not just as our mom, but as a caregiver to our elderly grandma, a loving wife, and a strong friend.

Now it’s our turn to help her.

This GoFundMe is to help our mom with:

• Medical bills and treatments that insurance doesn’t fully cover

• Supplies to keep her comfortable during chemo and infusions

• Special nutrition and care as treatment affects her strength and appetite

• Daily essentials and urgent needs as they come up due to loss of work and mounting medical bills

We’re trying to ease some of the stress so she can focus on getting better. She’s fighting hard, and we want to fight alongside her in any way we can.
