*UPDATE* 6/17/2025
Dear Friends,
Thank you all so much for the overwhelming kindness and generosity you’ve shown as we support Jason, Sara, and their family through this incredibly difficult journey. Your encouragement and care mean more than words can express.
Since our last update, there have been some important changes. Jason has gone from being described as the “sickest patient at UNC Chapel Hill” to becoming one of many patients steadily on the road to recovery. He has recently been moved from the ICU to a step-down unit, where he continues to receive excellent care along with physical and occupational therapy.
That said, the path to healing is rarely without complications. One of the life-saving medications used to stabilize Jason had unintended side effects, significantly affecting blood flow to his extremities. While it helped preserve his vital organs, it also caused serious injuries to his hands, fingers, feet, and toes.
Jason’s care team is now focused on managing these secondary injuries, which may prolong his hospitalization. As you can imagine, this places added strain on the entire family. Sara has been by Jason’s side throughout, and we want to ensure she can remain there without the added burden of financial stress. Her presence is not only comforting but essential during his recovery.
However, the costs of travel, accommodations, time away from work, and mounting medical expenses are growing. That’s why we are continuing to ask for your support.
Every donation—big or small—makes a real difference. Funds (minus a small GoFundMe processing fee) go directly to Jason and Sara through secure electronic transfer. If you’ve ever thought about skipping a coffee or a takeout meal to help someone in need, now is the time. Your contribution could truly change a life.
Thank you again for standing with us during this time. Your continued love and support mean everything.

With over 20 years of experience in public safety radio and 5 years of service in Transylvania County, Jason is a respected professional, a quiet leader, and a vital part of the communications fabric that keeps our responders connected and our communities protected.
He is also a dedicated member of North Carolina’s Emergency Support Function 2 (ESF-2), working tirelessly to support emergency communications across the state. Now, Jason needs our help.
He is currently battling significant medical complications and was airlifted to a specialty hospital for critical care. As he continues his treatment, his family faces mounting medical bills and the unexpected costs of staying near him during this long and difficult journey.
How You Can Help
Every dollar raised will go directly to Jason and his family to support:
• Medical expenses
