Stand with Gracelynn in Her Health Struggle
Donation protected
Hi everyone. My name is Gracelynn, but I go by Gracie. When I was 9 years old, my colon completely collapsed, and I spent months in and out of hospitals trying to find what was causing certain organs to shut down. After about a 4 month battle, we discovered that type 1 diabetes was the cause of all of this. When found, my blood sugar was over 1000 and I was in DKA by this point. It’s been a long battle and 10 years later it hasn’t let up.
I recently lost my Medicaid because I turned 20, and got turned down when I reapplied, as well going to get denied for disability (I have more than just type one diabetes, but it’s the main one that will kill me). I currently can’t afford any of my insulin, and once my current supply runs out I have nowhere to turn. My Humulin U-500 is $1,800 a vial (what I use a month) and then 5 small vials of my Admelog is $700. About 3 weeks to a month ago I was hospitalized for an infection that had spread (thanks diabetes) and lost the best paying job I’ve ever had, and since then my health has done nothing but decline. The stress of everything has caused my blood sugar to sometimes remain constantly high no matter what I do, and yesterday I woke up with it almost 500 with large ketones, which can be fatal.
This is extremely embarrassing, but not asking for help hurt me more, as I couldn’t afford the meds for my infection and was too scared and embarrassed to ask for help and that’s what caused it to spread. I currently owe Pelham hospital over 10,000 but I’m mainly just worried about getting insulin so I can just continue living. I’m sure this will not get me far, but it’s worth a shot. My parents have driven themselves so far into debt trying to help me and now we’ve done all we can. Thank you to everyone whether you donate or just say a prayer, anything will help. Thank you. Sincerely, Gracelynn.
