Stand with Gia: Fund Her Safety and Recovery

Over the past few months, our dear friend Gia has been experiencing the most traumatic season of her life. We are calling on our community to help support her through this time.

If you know Gia, you know one of the kindest, most effervescent, full-of-life humans on the planet. You also know how far she would go for those she cares about. That’s why we are asking for your help today.

After breaking up with her ex, Gia has since been subject to relentless harassment- living in fear due to this person's dangerous, unstable, and violent behavior. We believe that her ex poses an immediate threat to her physical safety.

Gia attempted to sever communication on multiple occasions with this person. They have obtained dummy phone numbers and social media accounts, and have sent harassing packages, letters, and photographs in an effort to make contact. These attempts escalated, and on April 2nd her ex allegedly physically assaulted a co-worker (Hamilton) he believed Gia had spent time with in a professional context after their breakup. Thankfully, Hamilton was able to defend himself, and her ex was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

This assault was allegedly premeditated and done because of his obsession with Gia; when he attacked Hamilton he stated he was doing this because of Gia.

He is currently facing four felony charges including attempted murder, felony assault with a deadly weapon (truck), felony assault with a deadly weapon, felony possession of loaded firearm on person or in vehicle.

We were not aware until the charges were made public that he allegedly had a loaded gun on the scene too. Which makes his behavior all the more dangerous and unpredictable.

We now need to take immediate action: her ex posted bail and is still walking free in between hearings and court dates. He’s shown no concern for the consequences of his actions, making the possibility of further harm imminent.

Gia is in fear because of the behavior he exhibited through their relationship and the escalation post breakup, the fact that he has had access to firearms, and because he has had access to her New York residence.

Gia has now had to uproot her entire life to ensure he has no idea where she lives and has no access to her. This has been daunting, traumatic, and very expensive. She has had to break her current lease in New York and seek safe housing, and has been unable to work since April.

As she’s beginning to pick up the pieces of her life, she could really use the help from her friends and community to help keep her safe and recoup the extreme financial hit she’s taken amidst this severely traumatic time.

With your contribution, we will help Gia cover:

-Breaking her existing lease

-Moving expenses

-Move-in costs for a new residence (we have identified a new, secure building)

-Home security and surveillance

-Ongoing counseling from a domestic violence advocate

-Loss of work and income while her safety is at risk

-Mental health services to deal with the trauma of the incident

This has been a true nightmare for Gia to endure and it is by no means over.

She deserves to feel safe and at peace in her own home. She deserves to work and run her business without fear of reprisals and harassment. She deserves peace of mind. While it will take time for these things to manifest, the better equipped she is financially to face the challenges ahead, the sooner she will find some comfort.
