Stand with George Barrera: A Hero's Journey

George Barrera, a courageous war veteran and a true hero, is in urgent need of our compassionate support during an incredibly challenging time.

On the morning of December 20, 2024, George's life was tragically changed forever when he was involved in a harrowing car accident, colliding with a semi-truck on his way to work. He was quickly transported to a hospital in Houston, where he faced a series of devastating challenges, including broken bones and severe trauma to his head, face, and eye. The journey ahead is fraught with uncertainty, involving multiple surgeries and the daunting possibility of facial reconstruction, the potential loss of vision, and swelling in his brain. Yet, despite these overwhelming hardships, George’s spirit remains remarkably resilient and strong.

As a decorated hero, George has always been a source of inspiration, having received the Navy Accommodation Medal for his selfless service. As a field medic on the battlefield, he dedicated himself to helping others. After eight years of service, he followed his heart and married Katè, a fellow servicewoman he met while stationed in Japan. Together, they have built a loving family, blessed with three precious children, as well as two dogs and a cat that bring joy to their home.

George was just about to fulfill his dreams of a permanent position in the power industry after completing lineman school and returning to Texas to continue his apprenticeship.

As a devoted father, George has always worked tirelessly to provide for Katè, allowing her to be at home, caring for their young children. While they have received some disability payments, the financial burden has become increasingly overwhelming. These payments fall short of covering their monthly expenses, daily needs, travel for treatments, and essential therapy. Adding to this, they face the daunting task of making the lengthy drive to Houston three times a week for physical therapy, speech therapy, and to support George's cognitive recovery.

During this profoundly difficult time, George’s unwavering resilience and courage serve as a true inspiration to us all.
