Stand with Erin: A Firefighter's Healing Journey

Hi all I am Sarah Erin's younger sister. We are organizing this fundraiser to cover the medical bills for a medical emergency he experienced last month (read on for more details). Funds will support some out of pocket costs despite having good insurance as well as supporting Erin financially a bit with extra costs for transportation and PT. On Superbowl Sunday about a month ago Erin had a medical emergency. He had been skiing at high altitude and when he came home it was believed to be altitude sickness. Then things took a strange turn. He experienced extreme pain and acute bleeding in his foot and went to the hospital. He was rapidly diagnosed with necrotizing fascitis or what's commonly known as flesh eating bacteria. He was quickly sent by ambulance down to a specialized hospital in Boston and we passed a scary first night that was life threatening where they discussed amputating his leg. He underwent a first surgery that night followed by a few more over the next month. Thankfully he responded well to the copious amount of antibiotics and the dream team Brigham and Womens treatment. Erins been in the hospital 19 days over the last month and received a skin graft treated by the burn team in Boston. For those who know Erin he is a very health conscious guy committed to maintaining his athleticism to train firefighters as a career fire lieutenant on the Seacoast of New Hampshire. He is currently on short term disability as his leg recovers and attacking PT with gusto to bounce back as quick as possible. Thanks all for helping to spread the word. Erin does so much for anyone else in his community that needs help. I hope we can all chip in a bit to help lighten the load for him. He continues to recover well and we're very thankful for all the positive support and his wellbeing.
