Stand with Emma: Start Over and Heal From Domestic Violence

This GoFundMe is for my daughter Emma Beierle. Emma has just had surgery to put three titanium plates in her jaw to piece it back together after her ex boyfriend brutally assaulted her, breaking it in two places and severing the main nerve to her bottom lip and chin. Her jaw is wired shut for the next month or so, making it so she can only drink from a straw (however with her lip numb from nerve damage, we have had to resort to using a syringe to squirt water into her mouth). One of her fingers is also broken, with a chip out of her knuckle and a splintered bone below it.

She took what she could throw into a bag and took her beloved dog, Nala, and drove 25 hours back home to New York from Colorado, where she had the first of at least three surgeries a few days ago. Tomorrow she will be back in the OR to have her finger "fixed" - after consulting with two doctors including a hand specialist it has been concluded that the best they can to is put a screw in it to alleviate the pain from the splintered bone, but warned her that it will never bend again. The following day she will be in the Operating Room for the third time in seven days, to remove a few screws and some of the wires in her mouth that prevent her from opening it, hopefully allowing her to eat applesauce and similar purees. The dates for her surgeries after this week are not set yet, but sadly this will be an extended process for her with repeated surgeries.

I am making this GoFundMe because Emma has only the clothes she wore and a couple of t-shirts, a pair of sweatpants, a coat I gave her, and thankfully her wonderful dog Nala who stays by her side and provides protection, comfort, and love which is so needed right now. All of her personal belongings are lost, from the simplest things like toiletries, to things like furniture and Christmas gifts from family, kitchen appliances, and more. (Some of you will recall her time baking and selling her amazing cupcakes - all of her appliances and utensils are gone.)

She has no apartment, having to leave her Colorado residence that she shared with the person who did this to her, and no means to acquire one here by her family during this time of healing when she cannot work. Unfortunately I am not allowed to have dogs so she is staying with her brother on his couch, but this is not a long term solution. We want nothing more than to support her through this and help her gain her independence once again as the strong and beautiful woman she is.

The final reason for this GoFundMe is that Emma has told us, her family, that she intends to fly back to Colorado for her abuser's trial and sentencing and make him face her and see what he did to her.

We are so proud of her and the strength she is showing in wanting to face this monster and force him to listen her victim impact statement, and mine, as we fight to put him behind bars for the rest of his life so that she can stop living in fear. She has asked us to come with her, and we of course very much want (and feel the need to) show our unwavering support as we stand by her side. The fact is, cross country flights are expensive, hotels for who knows how long are expensive, and without the help of our friends, family, and community, the struggle to pull this off may be insurmountable, so we are asking for your help at this time.
