My name is Patreena, and I write to you on behalf of my dear friend, Elim Beckford.

On the Donate Now page it states that Patrick McGlashan will benefit from the GoFundMe. He will not. Elim Beckford will receive all donations towards her back surgery

GoFundMe is not supported in Jamaica. Therefore, the banking information must originate from the US since GoFundMe is supported there. The organizer, Patrick McGlashan, had to use his banking information hence the reason GoFundMe stated that he’s benefiting from the fundraising. Hope this clears up any questions or confusion.

 

Elim and I have shared a friendship spanning over two decades, originating from our days at St. Hugh’s High School. Over the years, she has not only been a cherished friend but also a passionate surfer who represented Jamaica with great pride in numerous national and international competitions, earning the highest honors in her field.

She has been suffering from lower back pain since high school due to an incident where another student pulled a chair from behind her as she was about to sit down, causing her to fall onto the concrete floor. It was later discovered that she has two prolapsed discs in her lower back.  

 

Today, I reach out to you with a plea that comes from a place of urgent need. Elim is facing a severe medical challenge—a vertebrae in her lower back is crushing her spinal nerve, necessitating immediate surgery. The estimated cost for this critical procedure at Andrews Memorial Hospital is approximately $5 million.

 

Elim's life journey has been marked by resilience and determination, but she cannot face this daunting challenge alone. The funds we raise will cover the surgical expenses, post-operative care, rehabilitation, and ongoing medical needs that are crucial for her recovery.

 

Elim is home at the moment awaiting surgery and managing her pain with medications. She was transferred from Andrews Memorial Hospital to UHWI where she was admitted for over two weeks due to excruciating pain that has significantly impacted her mobility, lifestyle, and overall well-being. Her condition has deteriorated to the point where she requires daily pain management, including strong medications like Morphine. Her doctors have advised that surgery is the only viable option to alleviate her suffering and restore her quality of life.

 

Attached is a screenshot of Elim's MRI, providing a visual testament to the severity of her condition. The profound pain she endures is beyond words, affecting not just her body but also her spirit.

For example, a donation of US $50 will pay for a days worth of pain medication. Together, we can achieve our goal of JMD $5 million for her lower back surgery and help Elim embark on the path to healing.
