Stand with Eli: Wheelchair for Little Elijah

Hi, I’m Eli. This is my son’s story. His name is Elijah, and he’s 4 years old. He loves dinosaurs, colorful toys, and the people that surround him. Before Elijah was born, I found out he had hydrocephalus. He was born weeks before his due date due to his condition, and I got flown to Utah! He was born on Jan 11, 2021. When he was born, all I remember was doctors and more doctors, surgeon after surgeon, nurse after nurse. All I kept hearing was question after question. At 3 days old, my son went into surgery for a shunt placement. That day was the first time I got to see my son! After his surgery, he was put on an NG tube for feeding as well as oxygen. He stayed at the NICU for his first month with minimal visitation, minimal holding, and minimal hugs and kisses! When he was discharged, he went home with oxygen and his NG tube. I was told there was a huge possibility that he would stay on those forever. They were wrong. My son has always fought through everything. He always showed how much he wants to live. Up to this date, he still shows how much he wants to be here! When he was 2, he got diagnosed with CP (cerebral palsy), meaning he can’t sit, he can’t walk, and he can’t crawl. I know at one point he will, but at the moment he does not!

And this is why I’m here to seek help. For 3 years, I have been fighting to get him stuff he needs, especially a wheelchair. Every time, he has been getting denied from insurance. I do not work due to being his full-time care provider! At one point, I thought we already had it. I got a call stating we got approved and that I was going to get contacted for a delivery date. Yes, I got a call, but it was to find out he got denied again and that we had to start the whole year process AGAIN! My son goes to preschool now in a stroller that’s too small for him. I need to be my baby’s voice. I need to do what I can for my baby! If you can help, thank you for that.
