Stand with Eli: Future Social Worker in Need

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Eli and I’m reaching out to my community that has always supported my family.

In 2007, my father, a police officer, was murdered in the line of duty. I was just a child when my entire world changed. Shortly after, my mother, who has long struggled with substance use disorder, relinquished custody of me and has not supported me emotionally or financially since. I was raised by my grandparents and have been entirely on my own since I turned 17.

Despite the trauma, loss, and instability, I’ve always held on to one dream: to become a social worker and help children like me- kids who are forced to grow up far too fast, who feel invisible, and who need someone to fight for them.

I’m now just two months away from graduating with my degree in social work. But the final requirement is a full-time, unpaid internship with the Department of Human Resources. This means I’ve had to leave my paid job in order to fulfill the hours, leaving me without income to pay for basic living expenses.

That’s why I’m asking for $2,500, to simply get through these final two months so I can walk across the stage, degree in hand, and begin giving back as a licensed social worker. It’s not just about me- it’s about the kids I’ll serve and the lives I hope to impact with the tools and empathy I’ve gained through my own journey.

Only 3% of former foster youth ever earn a 4-year college degree. Growing up in kinship care, I hope to join that 3%.
Many youth in my situation never make it this far because the system is under-resourced, and the emotional weight is often too much to carry alone.
I’ve made it this far without a safety net, but I’m asking for your help so I don’t have to walk the last mile alone.

Your donation, no matter how small, will help cover:
Rent and utilities
Transportation to and from my internship
Groceries and basic living needs

This isn’t just financial support. It’s a vote of confidence in someone who never thought she’d make it this far.

My father gave his life in service to others. I want to live my life in service too- by standing up for children who feel forgotten, unseen, or unloved. Becoming a social worker isn’t just a job, it’s my purpose.

Thank you for reading, for sharing, and for believing in me. I will never forget your kindness.

With gratitude,
Eli
