I’m writing today with a heavy but hopeful heart to share Edison’s story and ask for your help in his fight against cancer.

Several months ago, Edison, who is just 34 years old, began experiencing neck and back pain, initially thought to be caused by stress. Despite multiple doctor visits, tests, and treatments, his pain persisted and eventually became more intense. After many months and further medical investigations, Edison was diagnosed with advanced cholangiocarcinoma — a rare and aggressive cancer of the bile ducts.

Edison is the first patient in Ecuador to receive an expensive new immunotherapy treatment called Durvalumab. Unfortunately, he has faced complications that have required frequent hospital care, adding significantly to the financial burden. Now, there is a new FDA-approved therapy available at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, offering renewed hope and a chance to fight this rare disease.

Through all of this, Edison has shown incredible courage and strength. He continues to face each day with hope and determination, dreaming of many more years with his family and friends. Anyone who knows him knows how kind, charismatic, and generous he is — always ready with a smile, a helping hand, or words of encouragement.

I’m creating this fundraiser to help Edison and his family cover the high costs of ongoing treatments, hospital stays, and the possibility of pursuing this new therapy in the United States. Together, we can be the lifeline that Edison needs to keep fighting and to stay with the people who love him so dearly.

Hoy les escribo con el corazón lleno de esperanza pero también con mucha preocupación, para compartir la historia de Edison y pedirles su ayuda en su lucha contra el cáncer.

Hace varios meses, Edison, de tan solo 34 años, empezó a sentir dolor en el cuello y la espalda, que en un inicio se pensó que era producto del estrés. A pesar de múltiples consultas médicas, exámenes y tratamientos, el dolor persistía y se volvió cada vez más intenso. Después de varios meses y más estudios médicos, a Edison le diagnosticaron un colangiocarcinoma avanzado, un cáncer poco común y agresivo en las vías biliares.

Edison es el primer paciente en Ecuador en recibir un costoso tratamiento de inmunoterapia llamado Durvalumab. Lamentablemente, en el camino ha enfrentado complicaciones que han requerido hospitalizaciones constantes, lo que ha incrementado muchísimo los costos médicos. Ahora existe una nueva terapia aprobada por la FDA disponible en el Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center en Nueva York, que ofrece una luz de esperanza y una oportunidad para seguir luchando contra esta rara enfermedad.

A pesar de todo lo que está atravesando, Edison ha demostrado una valentía y fortaleza admirables. Cada día sigue adelante con esperanza y con el deseo de vivir muchos años más junto a su familia y amigos. Quienes lo conocen saben lo extraordinario, carismático y generoso que es: siempre dispuesto a brindar una sonrisa, una mano amiga o palabras de aliento.

He creado esta campaña para ayudar a Edison y a su familia a cubrir los elevados costos de sus tratamientos, hospitalizaciones y la posibilidad de acceder a esta nueva terapia en Estados Unidos. Juntos podemos ser ese salvavidas que Edison necesita para seguir luchando y quedarse junto a las personas que tanto lo aman.
